No Pleasure or Tourist Travel Permitted to Cormorant Island

Public Notice

No pleasure or tourist travel permitted to Cormorant Island.

Please be advised that at this time no pleasure or tourist travel is permitted to Cormorant Island. We are a friendly community and we value visitors and tourists however, with the current health crisis, we ask that you visit at another time. Our U’mista Cultural Centre and other tourist attractions are currently closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are an isolated, remote community with limited resources and we are taking extreme precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our community members. Please respect our desire to stay healthy and avoid any unnecessary risks. Each person who visits our Island increases the risk of one of our residents becoming infected with the COVID-19 virus.

Let’s all work together to keep ourselves and our fellow citizens safe. By limiting unnecessary travel and practicing social physical distancing and handwashing recommendations from our Public Health Authorities, we can limit the spread of this deadly virus.

Thank you for your consideration and cooperation. Stay healthy.

Don Svanvik, Chief Councillor, ‘Namgis First Nation
