Employment Opportunity

There is a full-time position being offered at Tʼlisalagiʼlakw School. It is currently looking for a Special Education Teacher/Coordinator. This is a full-time position for the 2010-11 school year with the possibility of continuity.

 

This is a band operated independent (Group 2) school. It enrolls 84 students from Nursery to Grade 7.It employs 21 staff members (8 teachers). The average class size is 15. The facility is modern and was built in 1994. The school is very fortunate to have good, caring people on its staff. There is excellent continuity in the staff, and the school is experiencing positive growth in all areas. There is great support from the parents, Band Council, and the School Board Authority.

 

Applications are invited for the following position:

 

Special Education Teacher

 

Qualifications include:

 

* A love for people, especially children, and a passion for teaching

* An excellent track record as a Special Education teacher or a teacher with a willingness to develop in this area

* Experience in developing Individual Education Plans (I.E.P.s)

* Experience working with current assessment tools

* Excellent organizational and communication skills

* Positive interaction with students, parents, staff and other community members

* A team player willing to work with a dedicated staff

* A keen interest in and ability to take on extracurricular activities

* A background in any or all of the following would be advantageous (computers, sports,

Special Education, fine arts]

* Knowledge of current curriculum trends (IRP's)

* BCCT certified

* A professional yet relaxed approach

* Experience in First Nations settings preferred

* A willingness to participate in local cultural school and community events
