 MOBILE Residential construction

Program Length: 7.5 Week modules

PURPOSE

Each of these programs is designed to provide the learner with the hands-on training required to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will enable you to work in the construction industry.

The level at which each graduate works will depend on his/her interests and on the individual programs completed. Graduates may work in residential construction, for commercial construction companies, in renovation businesses, and some graduates may establish their own business.

Schedule

Monday to Thursday: four hours each day, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Class times may change.

ADMISSION

Applicants must meet all of these entry requirements:

  •  A satisfactory entrance interview with a College official
  •  Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the construction field
  •  Candidates should be physically fit, with good manual dexterity, good hand-eye coordination and balance, and able to work at heights and in adverse weather
  •  Candidates must be 19 years of age or older on the first day of classes
  •  We recommend that applicants have a grade 10 education (or equivalent) including science, math, and English

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon successful completion of each of these programs, you will possess the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that will enable you to:

Residential construction foundation skills & Safety Program:

  •  Orient to the residential construction industry
  •  Learn residential construction career access skills
  •  Use and maintain residential construction tools and equipment
  •  Use residential construction drawings, specifications, and layout
  •  Apply skills, knowledge, and behaviors in a practicum experience
