ŁAXWEʼGILA GATHERING

August 3-6, 2015

Łaxweʼgila Gathering will be at Tłagwanigwis – Bonanza Lake this year.  The dates are Monday August the 3rd to Thursday August the 6th, 2015.

This site is in the territory of the ʼNa̱mǥis and was utilized by the ʼNiʼna̱lk̓inux̱w or Upriver People [those on the upper end of the river] and the T̕sit̕sa̱łʼwalaǥa̱me or Famous Ones.

Vernon Lake and Bonanza Lake have the same kwak̓wala name according to Agnes Cranmer.  Both lakes have pinkish, red colored stones along the foreshore of the lakes.

The organizers will supply cereal milk and fresh fruit for the event.  There will be one potluck dinner where we all cook and prepare a meal for everyone.  If there is sockeye, it will be barbeque fish, potatoes and fresh salad.

There will be Indian medicine, cedar bark weaving, medicinal collection workshops and a tour of a limestone site on the east side of the lake.  We are hoping to get a boat to tour the lake to search for pictographs and ancient culturally modified trees.  Origin stories will be told about the lake and surrounding territory.
