JOB SUMMARY: The K’wak’walat’si Child and Family Services is a Delegated C3 program under the ‘Namgis Community Services agency. We offer programs which support and maintain families through voluntary services, social assistance, infant development, early intervention treatment, early childhood development, family support and family violence programs alongside social assistance, day care, Head Start program and recreation center. Our child welfare focus is prevention, providing ongoing support, contracting family preservation homes, advocacy and working with local MCFD on matters pertaining to child protection.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Parent/child/family counseling, intervention, advocacy and/or mediation
  • Individual support and referrals
  • Choosing and supporting family preservation homes
  • Formulate and implementation of support plans
  • Maintaining ICM case records
  • Working with other departments around the design and delivery of workshops targeting parenting, family wellness, trauma, addictions, poverty, special needs, etc.
  • Consulting and networking with other service providers;
  • Networking with community resources for the North Island and their referral processes
  • Preserving the identity and culture of the children
  • Following agency protocols and standards pertaining to our delegation
  • Maintain strong working relationships with MCFD, schools health center and RCMP

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or Diploma in social work; or a degree or diploma in a relative field with two years’ related experience
  • Previous experience in a child welfare or delegated agency
  • Applicants who are familiar with the Kwakwaka’wakw culture

NOTE:

  • This position will be required to use own vehicle for transportation
  • There will be infrequent on call work for evenings and weekends
  • Employment will be subjected to satisfactory reference and criminal records checks
