Alcohol and Drug Counsellor – Two

Job Summary: Reporting to the Treatment Centre Manager, the Alcohol and Drug Counsellor provides direct addictions counselling services and healing programs and activities to First Nation clients in individual and group settings at the ‘Namgis Treatment Centre in the Northern Vancouver Island Community of Alert Bay.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Providing direct one-to-one counselling to clients
  • Treatment planning and implementation
  • Group facilitation
  • Life skills coaching
  • Crisis intervention and referral, including crisis line response
  • Case file management

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Addiction’s counselling certification from a recognized counselling association
  • Member in good standing with a recognized counselling association
  • A minimum 2 years’ related experience, preferably in a First Nation environment
  • Pharmacology (medical aspects), withdrawal management, etc.
  • Twelve Steps of Recovery
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills  
  • Demonstrated competency with basic computer skills
  • Drug and alcohol-free lifestyle
  • Basic First Aid certification and valid drivers’ license is preferred
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
