Job Posting: Assistant Administrator

ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR

We are seeking an Assistant Administrator to occupy a senior management position. The successful candidate will report to, support and collaborate with the Senior Administrator in all matters related to business operations including, but not limited to, the senior management team, Council, other First Nations and Indigenous organizations, federal and provincial governments, external agencies, membership, and other stakeholders. The Assistant Administrator is also responsible for the day-to-day management of the administration office including staff and other work units as required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with the Senior Administrator in implementing the ‘Namgis strategic plan
  • Preparing and implementing an annual work plan and reporting on same as required
  • Assisting the Senior Administrator with the annual work plan process by liaising and working directly with department heads to ensure work plans are developed, implemented, and reported on in a timely manner
  • Liaising with the Comptroller and department heads in the annual budget process
  • Preparing and/or presenting briefing notes, reports, letters, presentations and any other materials as directed by the Senior Administrator
  • Attending Council meetings and following up on action items as required
  • Attending ‘Namgis Council and community committee/board meetings on behalf of the Senior Administrator as required
  • Liaising with Federal and Provincial Governments, ISC, Kwakwaka’wakw and other First Nations, Indigenous organizations and local governments on behalf of the Senior Administrator as required
  • Directing, supporting and overseeing the T’lisalagi’lakw School Principal, Lands Code Manager and the Administration support team

 Job Qualifications:

  • University degree in public or business administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a senior management position, preferably within a First Nation environment
  • Proven leadership skills in administration and human resources management
  • Demonstrated financial management skills in budget preparation and administration
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal

 Job Competencies:

  • Strong people leadership skills including team building, coaching and performance management
  • Strong financial management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills including negotiation and solution-oriented problem solving
  • Demonstrated business writing skills including policy, procedure, proposals and briefing notes
  • Intermediate computer proficiency including working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Comfort level with group presentations and facilitation

Other job requirements:

  • Valid drivers’ licence and the ability to travel from time to time
  • Overtime, weekend and evening work as may be required from time to time
  • A satisfactory criminal record check
