Education Terms of ReferenceThe School Board is an elected board that is responsible for setting policy and direction for the T’lisalagi’lakw School, which offers instruction from nursery to grade eight. The board consists of four Namgis members, two representatives from Whe-La-La-U, one Namgis Councilor, the principal and the Assistant Namgis Administrator. The School Board also has several subcommittees, which include the Education Finance Committee and Cultural Committee. Finance Terms of ReferenceThe Finance Committee reviews the annual budgets, monitors actual results, reviews the annual audit, makes recommendations to Council on significant financial matters and ensures the Council’s financial policies are followed. It is a standing committee appointed by Council and consists of three councilors, two members at large and non-voting staff members. Health Board Terms of ReferenceThe Health Board is responsible for setting policy and direction for the Health Centre, which consists of eight different departments. These are Social Services, Community Health, Home & Community Care, Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centre, Mental Health, Physician Services, Dental Clinic, and Administration. The Health Board consists of two Councilors, one representative from the Whe-La-La-U Area Council, the site manager for the hospital, and one community member. The Health Centre Administrator, Namgis Administrator, and the Assistant Administrator also sit on the board, as non-voting members. Housing Terms of ReferenceThe Housing Committee ensures Council’s housing policies are followed. The Committee oversees the construction of new homes, the allocation of funding for major repair projects, and the maintenance of existing dwellings owned by the Band. It consists of three councilors, four members at large and non-voting staff members. Post secondary Terms of RefereneThe Post-Secondary Committee reviews, prioritizes, and approves applications for financial assistance for students in accordance with the post-secondary policy. The committee consists of one school board member, two community members, the Comptroller, post-secondary clerk, the post-secondary administrator and the school Principal. |
