Namgis operations span a wide spectrum of activities with over eighty
full time staff working in five main areas: Education, Health, Community
Development, Natural Resources, and Administration. To see all of the

People are drawn to work for us for many
reasons. Our recognition of the importance of family and the resulting
generous leaves and benefits that are reflected in our Personnel
Policies help staff to balance work and family obligations. Our free
Well Babies Clinics, Head Start, playgroup, and nursery programs are
greatly appreciated by all in our community who have infants, toddlers
and young children, and our extended benefits and pension plan provide
both short and long-term security for all permanent staff.
For
some, the natural beauty of the waters and mountains that surround our
small island village are a key draw. Ocean kayaking, boating, and
fishing are unparalleled in our area.
For others, it is the
quiet that holds them. Alert Bay is an oasis of calm in an otherwise
frantic world. Here one has time for family, community, and work, and
walking, cycling or driving to work is a pleasure, not a teeth-gnashing
ordeal. Our island is only two miles long, so getting stuck in traffic
is not an acceptable excuse for being late for work!
The
stability of our elected Council and its progressive vision has resulted
in a stable administration, with many staff having worked for us for
ten years or more. Our financial stability has enabled us to act on the
vision of both Council, and of those who have brought their skills,
experience and dreams to our community. Making progress, effecting
change, and seeing results brings much satisfaction and our track record
is second to none.
